Grace

OK, so let’s talk about what grace really is, then we can set up how to use it or how to give and receive it. Grace definition: polite good will. Attractive qualities or behavior. The free and unearned favor of God. A persons favor. A period officially allowed for an obligation to be met.

So, I have allowed someone grace to do what they said they would do. And,  I have relied on grace to get me through my walk with people and God. The problem with people today is that they don’t give grace to others or themselves. We want everything right now, or yesterday, sometimes forgetting how long it took us to get where we are. So, we set up unrealistic expectations for ourselves and others, and then get a resentment when those expectations don’t come to pass. It becomes a vicious cycle as the people we are expecting to come through for us can’t because they don’t have the capacity to yet.

We need to remember: “that at times the only thing that saves is grace.” Either someone’s grace gives us a break, or God’s grace saves us and sets us free, or we get a grace period in which to show ourselves and others what’s new or different in our lives. I believe that the good book states that we are all here because of grace, that grace saved us set us free and grace continues to free us from ourselves and others. Grace does not have expectations, it does not put conditions on things before it shows up, and it does not hold people for ransom unless you do it grace’s way. Grace is gentle, kind, free, wise, hopeful and always available to us should we so choose to live in it.

Imagine, if you will, a whole world treating each other with the grace we ourselves wish to be treated with!! What would our world look like??? What causes most of our trouble? Why do we find ourselves behind the eight ball a lot of the time? I believe it’s because we do not know how to operate in grace today. There are a lot of things missing out of today’s world. I believe that grace is the largest virtue that has gone missing. I believe that because of the demise of the family, we have lost almost all the core values we once had, handed down from generation to generation. Our country was founded on these principles. Grace, mercy, love , favor, dignity, honor, integrity, and respect. Everything in our lives that is good can be placed under one of those headings. And today, if a family stands together, and stays together, and if that family happens to mention the core values that this country were built upon, that family or person gets labeled as a fanatic.

Yet, the people that spread hate, lies, and mistrust, and that try to warp our morals and try to take our youth and mislead them by the electronic pacifier, wearing clothes that show everything, speak hate and discrimination towards anyone who dares to stand up against them, these very people are the ones who have been short changed and do not have the grace of which we speak. Make no mistake about it, we are in a war. That war is going on right now. And it’s over the way our country was founded! Are we going to give it all up and go the way of the popular press, the popular media, and those that speak out about how we should embrace the ever popular and growing movement of “It it feels good, just do it”. Or, ” If you  and what we are going to be can’t be with the one you love, love the one your with”.

What are we going to allow? Where do we take a stand? When do people draw the line in the sand and say “this far and no further?” Grace starts this revolution. Grace lets us love others and ourselves back into right standing with this country, with ourselves, and with our God.
