Social Media’s Perfect Body

Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram! What they have in common is they all can hurt your body image by exposing yourself to the “ideal” body. Fake lips, fake breasts, lash extensions, tanned bodies, thin & tall, big bums, and best of all…filters and Photoshop. The list goes on and on for that “perfect body” that every women wants. These unrealistic standards create negative body images and eating disorders, lowering self-esteem and even suicidal thoughts. These negative “ideal body images” are what most teen girls want and strive to look like.

I think it’s time for natural beauty to be brought out because everyone is perfect the way they are. Whether you are tall, skinny, large, brown hair, green eyes, red hair, etc…everyone is beautiful in their own way. Self-confidence and loving yourself is the first step to this. So, how do you begin to love yourself? Here are a few steps to get you started:

  1. Stop comparing yourself to others.
  2. Don’t worry about others’ opinions.
  3. Allow yourself to make mistakes.
  4. Remember your value doesn’t lie in how your body looks.
  5. Don’t be afraid to let go of toxic people.
  6. Process your fears.
  7. Trust yourself to make good decisions for yourself.

These, my friends, are some very important tools to work with, and once you can accomplish these steps your love for yourself will start to build. Seeing those “perfect bodies” won’t phase you anymore . You will know that you are sexy and beautiful and all that social media stuff is just not real. True beauty lies on the inside anyways. You can be drop dead gorgeous, but if your heart and personality is bad, you will be viewed as an ugly individual.
